TAFL has Permanently Moved
As you may have noticed, TAFL has been down due to issues with our domain registrar. Unfortunately, those issues have yet to be resolved, so we are moving TAFL to a new domain: http://www.animefanlistings.com/ This move will be permanent.
We require all TAFL fanlistings to update their links to http://www.animefanlistings.com/ We will be giving fanlisting owners a 1-month grace period to change their TAFL links, after which we will be troubling fanlistings for incorrect TAFL links.
No forms or e-mails should have been lost during the downtime, but you may want to check with TAFL staffers to see if they received your forms. (Remember that you can check your pending fanlisting applications yourself.)
The board has moved to http://board.animefanlistings.com/ Due to a change in forum scripts, you will have to reset your password.
If you encounter any problems with the main TAFL website, please e-mail us at seniorstaffers@animefanlistings.com with a description of the problem.
We apologize for the inconvenience on our members and visitors and thank you for your patience.
ETA: Please also check your spam/junk e-mail folders for e-mails from our site. Gmail, for example, has been placing Troubles e-mails in spam folders.

Issue with Web-submitted Forms
During the past month, our host had issues with forms sent through the TAFL website; specifically, some forms were not being e-mailed to staffers.
We have copies of all application forms, so these do NOT need to be resent. However, staffers may e-mail you for clarifications on subcategories, as this information may not have gone through.
Any e-mails sent directly to staffers (i.e., e-mails you did not submit through the website, such as responses to Troubles or Overdue e-mails) do not need to be resent.
Some Finished, Update, Closed, contact, Downtime, and Change E-mail forms were unfortunately not received by staffers. Therefore, if you sent a F/U/C, contact, Downtime, or Change E-mail form within the last month, we ask that you 1) check with the category staffers to see if your forms were received by posting in the appropriate subforums on the message board and 2) resubmit your form if the staffer states that your form was not received.
This problem has been fixed thanks to our developers, so all forms should now be going through. We apologize greatly for the inconvenience.

TAFL Board Downtime
Posted by the TAFL Senior Staff at 10:31 am GMT-0800 [Permalink]
As you may be aware, the TAFL message board has been down for the past two days. Unfortunately, this is a problem with our host and the server that the message board is hosted on. (The main website is hosted on a different server so is unaffected by the outage.) We wanted to let you know that we are aware of the problem and are working with our host to resolve it. However, at this point, we do not have an estimated time for when the message board will be back up. In the meantime, you may contact us or the category staffers via e-mail using the contact form. We will post an announcement once the forums are online again. Thank you very much for your patience.

Holiday Troubles Hiatus
Posted by the TAFL Senior Staff at 10:20 am GMT-0800 [Permalink]
With the holiday season just around the corner, this becomes a time where many of our staff and fanlisting owners travel for vacation and become busy with their respective festivities. This announcement serves to inform everyone that, once again, we will be holding our annual troubles hiatus.
This hiatus will last from December 19th, 2011 to January 8th, 2012 – it will only affect Troubles and TLOU updates. Therefore, during the hiatus period, no fanlistings will be placed on TAFL troubles.
We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, and expect normal Troubles updates to occur after January 8th. Last but no least, we’ve prepared a small greetings card, please enjoy!

Applications System: Revamp Complete
We apologize for the delay, but we are happy to announce that the new Application system is now up and running! Weather issues and debugging hindered progress a little more than we anticipated, but we hope you all enjoy the new system as much as we do! Any technical issues you encounter should be directed to our Developers, who are wonderful and without whom all these changes would not be possible.
You can also now track your pending applications via the Your FL list – please remember that you are still only allowed 6 upcoming applications across the network, three pending in any category. While we are sure you will enjoy this handy new feature, we strongly recommend you do not obsessively check your list after submitting each application, as this can put a severe strain on the network. Checking with the staffer via Message Board is still your best option.
Thank you, again, for your patience, and we hope you all enjoy!

Application System Revamp
With 2010 only a month underway, TAFL has already set about making some large and exciting changes that we’d like to draw your attention to.
As we have previously stated, the network continues to grow steadily, and our current backend is quickly reaching the peak of its abilities. Since we have hundreds of owners, as well as a dedicated staff, we recognized that a process both smoother and more efficient is something we truly needed to work on. Thanks to our wonderful Development Team, we are excited to announce that we will be introducing a new system for Applications. Not only will it ease the process that a staffer must go through when handling applications, but it will also help owners keep track of their pending applications via the “Your TAFL List” feature. As TAFL puts this new system into effect, we will be disabling the applications form starting tomorrow, Friday, January 29th until Saturday, February 6th in order to make this a smooth transition.
While we know you’re just as excited about these new changes as we are, we urge you not to flood categories with applications before the forms go down. This will only slow the transition and make it harder on Applications staffers to make the switch. In addition, once the forms go down, any applications received by creative means or applications sent through other forms, including the contact form, will be IMMEDIATELY discarded. We ask for your patience as we make these changes, so that they can be as quick and painless as possible.
In addition, you might notice the Message Board out of service periodically during this week – please do not panic. While we update our Applications system, we are also taking the opportunity to update our Message Board. Should the board go down, or any other serious outage take place, we will be using Twitter to keep everyone updated.
We thank you for your patience as we implement these exciting new changes, and of course, any questions can be directed to the Senior Staff at seniorstaffers[@]animefanlistings.org.

Change of Network Ownership/Retirement
I have served as a staffer, manager and network owner (in order, heh) at TFL/TAFL since April 2003. Were I to continue here until next April, that’d be five years! After over a year’s difficult decision-making and preparation, I have decided to leave TAFL at the New Year.
This post serves as official notice that I will be retiring as network owner on December 31, 2007. I have chosen Rosemary to replace me as network owner as of January 1, 2008.
I have chosen Rosemary as my replacement because she and I are very like-minded, and I know she has the energy and time to devote to TAFL that I currently lack. She has been with TAFL since the inception of the network and I have every confidence in her ability to lead TAFL for many years to come.

EMAIL RESTORED, Troubles Hiatus

We have FINALLY resolved our email issues with Dreamhost. All forms at TAFL will reopen in the next few hours. Sorry about the weeks of hiatus, but hopefully all you eager beavers will be submitting to your hearts’ content very soon.
Also, starting today, December 14th, NO troubles updates will occur until January 7th. This is to give people a break over the holidays, and we’re starting it now because there isn’t enough time for the staffers to have a full troubles cycle before the 19th, when we were going to cut off updates anyway.
Happy holidays everyone, and happy form-submitting, as soon as we get them back online.

DDOS Attacks and the Board

Just a note that Dreamhost has been DDOSed repeatedly all day, and although most of their servers are now back online, ours is having trouble finding PHP, and therefore the boards are still down. Thank you for your patience, hopefully all will be right with the world very soon. -_-;;

Network Update

First and foremost, it appears we have been almost entirely unblacklisted, as we only received one bounce today, from Gmail, and that was the past 24+ hours or so. We hope to have the forms online tomorrow at some point, subject to Danielle’s rather insane work schedule. Johan has been scouring them for flaws, and has rewritten the one that was exploited, from scratch.
Also, in an effort to reduce our server footprint, we have secured an IPB license (thanks to the generous donations of our staffers!!) and upgraded the boards; however, Danielle was dismayed to find that the upgrade process, our board being over a dozen releases behind current, completely destroyed our customized board skin. The board will be offline tonight and hopefully will launch again sometime tomorrow, after she has a chance to do more damage control.
Regrettably, some posts and data were lost from the message board: all message board posts, updates and changes made from 10 am – 5 pm, on December 5, were lost. All data, posts, etc prior to 10 am are still intact, but any avatar changes, new topics or posts, or adjustments to your profile made after that time, as well as any new members that registered in that time period, were lost. Our apologies for this inconvenience, this data loss was quite unexpected.
Thank you for bearing with us as we repair the damage, and we hope to launch a mostly-complete, fully-functional TAFL, as you know it and love it, tomorrow. :D

Blacklisting UPDATE
Posted by the TAFL Senior Staff at 4:37 pm GMT-0800 [Permalink]
After quite a bit of research, we managed to trace down the email problems to one major blacklist, who posted a general alert on November 30 about the type of attack and spam sent — indeed, this was the attack that got TAFL as well. Since it most definitely was not just us hit by this, the blacklist was quite prompt in replying, and promises that we will be removed from the blacklist by tomorrow.
Danielle called AOL’s Postmaster tech support as well (toll-free, what the hey) to make sure that TAFL is whitelisted on their servers as well, so barring any further complications, TAFL forms should be back online tomorrow, EXCLUDING the Change Email form. As that was the one exploited, it will be down until further notice while it is completely rewritten to no longer have the weak points it currently does.
We are still dealing with our host and some overage issues that hopefully can just be pinned to the spam attack, but as the blacklisting was most debilitating, we are quite relieved to announce that this looks to be mostly behind us, and that TAFL should be back to full functionality this weekend.
Thanks, as always, for your patience.
